Delivery and delivery zones

Delivery zones on a map – circle and polygon, fee, minimum, free delivery from an amount, priorities, top-up to the minimum, address checking and the pickup address.

Applies to WP InPlate 1.35.2 · Updated:

A delivery zone is an area on a map with its own fee and minimum order value. A customer with an address in a zone can order delivery. You manage zones in InPlate → Settings → Delivery zones.

Without an active zone, delivery is unavailable to customers, even if you turn it on in the schedule.

Adding a zone

  1. Click + New zone.
  2. Move and zoom the map to your venue's area.
  3. Enter the zone's settings:
FieldDescription
Zone nameE.g. “City centre (free)”, “Housing estates”. Customers see it
TypeCircular (radius) – a circle around the point you choose, or Polygonal – any area
Delivery cost (€, gross)The fee added to the order. 0 means free delivery
Order minimum (€)The minimum value of an order with delivery in this zone
Free delivery from (€)From this order value delivery in the zone costs €0, e.g. a €20 fee but free from €199. 0 means no threshold
Zone activeAn inactive zone isn't taken into account

Amounts are in the store currency set in Sales panel → Settings → General – the field labels show its symbol, e.g. “Delivery cost (zł, gross)” in a store in Polish złoty.

  1. Draw the zone on the map: for a circular zone click the circle icon, for a polygonal one the polygon icon. The radius and the centre of the circle show under the map.
  2. Click Save zone.

Free delivery from an amount

Every zone can have its own threshold, next to the delivery cost and the minimum. What counts is the value of the products after discounts – without delivery and the packaging fee, as for the minimum.

  • Below the threshold the customer pays the zone's delivery cost and sees in the summary how much is missing, e.g. “€23.00 more for free delivery”.
  • From the threshold delivery costs €0: the summary shows the fee struck through, “Free” and “Free delivery from €199”. The order, the KDS, the label and the emails name the delivery the same way.
  • The delivery checker and the saved addresses in My Account show the threshold only when the zone has one.
  • When a free-delivery promotion also runs, the customer pays the lower fee.
  • The threshold only lowers the delivery cost – the top-up to the minimum stays.

Zone order (priority)

Zones are checked from the top of the list – the first match wins. You change the order by dragging the rows.

Example: a small “City centre” zone with free delivery above a larger “City” zone with a €10 fee. An address in the city centre gets free delivery, an address outside the centre but in the city gets paid delivery.

In the list of zones you can activate and deactivate a zone with one click.

Top-up to the minimum

The Allow top-up to the order minimum option lets a customer whose cart is below the minimum pay the missing amount on top of the delivery cost instead of adding more dishes. On the order summary page the order button then changes to “Pay … surcharge and order”, and above it the customer sees how much is missing to the minimum. Before placing the order, the customer sees the total delivery cost (the zone fee and the top-up) and must confirm it.

In the KDS and on the label the top-up is shown separately (“incl. delivery surcharge”).

How the address is checked

  • The customer's address is turned into coordinates by OpenStreetMap (Nominatim). You don't need a Google Maps key or a paid API.
  • The house number is checked: a number that doesn't exist is rejected instead of placing the customer in the middle of the street.
  • The zone is checked again on the server when the order is placed.

The address's coordinates go into the order – the courier opens navigation straight to the customer.

If the address isn't found, the customer is asked to enter it more precisely.

Checking delivery before ordering

The InPlate – Delivery checker block lets customers check their address before they start choosing dishes. See Blocks and shortcodes.

Delivery hours

The delivery window, the interval between times, the preparation time and the delivery range are set in the Schedule.

Pickup address in the email

The “Ready for pickup” email gives the address where the customer collects the order. You set it in InPlate → Settings → Sales → Pickup address (or in the setup wizard): street, building or unit number, postcode, city, additional directions and a Google Maps link – with it the email has a “Get directions” button.

If the address was entered earlier in the InPlate – Delivery / Pickup shipping method of a WooCommerce shipping zone, InPlate still uses it and shows it in these fields. Once you save the settings, the address from InPlate applies.

A missing pickup address is a warning on the Readiness to sell list.

A minimum for methods without an address

A zone sets the minimum for delivery only. A shared minimum for pickup, eating in and QR tables is turned on in InPlate → Settings → Sales → Order minimum. See Settings.
