After adding a dish to the cart, the customer can see a window with suggestions, e.g. fries and a drink with a burger or a dessert with lunch. One click adds a suggestion to the cart.
Turning it on
Go to InPlate → Settings → Sales → Related products (cross-sells). You turn the suggestions window on separately for two kinds of devices:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Enable cross-sell modal on desktop | Suggestions on computers |
| Enable cross-sell modal on mobile | Suggestions on phones |
The suggestions window appears a moment after a dish is added to the cart and shows all the dish's suggestions. Their number is set in the template or in the product. Unavailable or sold-out suggestions are skipped.
Where the suggestions come from
The list of suggestions for a dish is built like this:
- First the suggestions from the template assigned to the product, if it has one.
- Then the suggestions from the templates assigned to the product's categories (without repeats).
- Products hidden in this product's settings are removed from the list – also those from category templates.
- Finally the own suggestions added in the product.
If a product has no template (its own or from a category) and no own suggestions, WP InPlate uses the standard WooCommerce cross-sell products from the product editor (Product data → Linked Products).
Cross-sell templates
A template is a named list of suggestions used by many products, e.g. “Drinks for burgers” or “Sides for cutlets”.
- Go to Products → Cross-sell templates (or from a tablet: KDS → Manager → Cross-sell) and click New template.
- Enter a name (visible only in the dashboard) and add products with the search field. Type a product or category name – e.g. “Drinks” shows all products in the Drinks category. Click one product after another – the list stays open, and the added ones are marked and appear in the Cross-sell products panel on the right (under the search field on a narrow screen). Clicking outside or pressing Esc closes the list. The same search field is next to a product's own suggestions.
- Set the order with the “Move up / down” arrows.
- Save the template.
A template for a whole category
Prepare e.g. “Drinks for burgers” and assign it once to the whole Burgers category – the same way as an add-on template, in the same window:
- In the list of templates, click Assign next to the template.
- In the To product categories tab, choose the category and click Assign. The window shows which categories the template is already assigned to; ✕ next to a category unassigns it.
- The To specific products tab assigns the template to chosen products – you search for them by name or category and click them one after another. A product has one own cross-sell template, so this one replaces the current one.
A category template works for all products in the category, also those added later. Only categories assigned directly to the product count.
You set exceptions for a single product in the Cross-sell (WP InPlate) field in the product editor: in the From the category section untick the suggestions this product should not show, or add your own. The product window in the manager panel shows which templates apply from categories.
A template for one product
You assign a template for one dish only in the product editor, in the Cross-sell (WP InPlate) field, or in the product window in the manager panel. For InPlate dishes you choose it in the dish form, in the “Add-ons & cross-sells” section. Its suggestions come before the suggestions from categories in the list.
Duplicate next to a template creates a copy “… (copy)” with the same products, assigned nowhere, and opens it in the editor straight away.
A dish with sizes has small size buttons in the suggestion – the customer chooses a size and adds it with one click.
The mandatory surcharge shows under the suggestion's price, e.g. “+ €2.00 · Packaging” – the customer knows what they will really pay. When a product (or the chosen size) has required add-ons, there is an arrow instead of “+”: it opens the dish window with the chosen size, so the dish doesn't go to the cart without the required choice.
The list of templates shows how many suggestions each template has and which categories it is assigned to. Deleting a template also removes it from the categories; products that no longer have any template or own suggestions go back to the standard WooCommerce suggestions.
