In-venue radio

A music player for your venue with playlists matched to the time of day and energy – setup and daily use.

Applies to WP InPlate 1.35.2 · Updated:

The radio is a music player for your venue that runs in the browser. Its playlists are matched to the time of day and energy, so it plays calmer music in the morning and livelier music in the evening. The music comes from the external Atmosphere catalog – you don't pay royalties for playing it in your venue.

Address: /wp-inplate/radio/. You can install the radio as an app (PWA) on a tablet, a phone or a computer connected to your sound system. The app is named after your venue, e.g. “InPlate Bistro Radio” – see Phone and tablet apps.

The radio works straight after installation – there is nothing to set up. It connects to the Atmosphere catalog based on your WP InPlate license or trial. In Settings → Radio you can check whether the connection works and, if it doesn't, see the reason.

Who has access

All signed-in users except the store's customers can open the radio – that is, you and your team. The Radio tile is on the team start screen.

Screen layout

  • At the top – search by time of day (morning, lunch, afternoon, evening, night) and energy (low, medium, high). It searches the whole catalog: the Vibe column keeps only the moods with matching playlists, already expanded. Clear goes back to the full list.
  • Three columns: Vibe (moods and their playlists), Playlist (the chosen playlist with its list of tracks) and My stack (your queue or a shared playlist from someone on your team).
  • At the bottom – the player: what's playing now, the buttons and the track's progress.

On a phone and a tablet you swipe the columns – always by one column. A phone shows one column at a time and starts on the playlist: the moods are one swipe to the right, the stack one swipe to the left. A tablet shows two columns.

Listening

  1. In the Vibe column tap a mood – its playlists expand under it.
  2. Choose a playlist. It opens in the Playlist column (on a phone the view moves there by itself).
  3. Tap Play or any track in the list.

The player at the bottom has:

  • previous track – after the first 3 seconds it goes back to the start of the current track,
  • play / pause and next track,
  • a progress bar – drag it to skip within the track,
  • loop: Track (repeats one track), Playlist or Vibe (after the playlist, the mood's next playlist plays). When playing from the stack you can choose Track and Stack, and from a shared playlist – Track and Playlist.

On a computer the space bar starts and pauses playback. If a track can't be played, the player shows this in red.

My stack

The stack is your own queue of tracks, arranged like a playlist in a music player.

  • Adding: + next to a mood adds all its tracks, + next to a playlist the whole playlist, + next to a track that one track. The Add to stack button above the list of tracks does the same.
  • Order: drag a track by its handle (with the mouse or a finger).
  • Removing: × next to a track. The bin icon clears the whole stack – after a confirmation.
  • Playing: the ▶ button in the stack's header plays from the start, tapping a track plays from that track. Tracks play in order, and you can change the stack while it plays: move, add and remove tracks, including the one playing right now.

The stack is saved to your account, so it is the same on every device, and every staff member has their own. A track that is no longer in the catalog stays greyed out in the list and is skipped.

If the stack can't be loaded or saved, a red message with a Try again button appears in the stack column. On a phone and a tablet a red icon also shows in the header – tap it to go to the stack.

Shared playlists

Ann built a morning stack on her phone, but today the music plays from the tablet at the bar? Ann shares the stack under a name, and on the tablet you just choose it.

Sharing

  1. In the My stack header tap the share icon (three connected dots).
  2. Enter a name, e.g. “Morning”, and tap Share.

All staff members see the playlist “Morning · Ann” with the tracks in the order they had in your stack. Later changes to the stack don't change the shared playlist. To update it, share the stack again under the same name – the form warns you that the playlist will be replaced. You can have up to 30 shared playlists.

Listening to a shared playlist

Above the stack there is a Play: list – choose a playlist from it. The column shows its tracks, its author and the date it was shared. You play it like the stack: ▶ in the header or tapping a track. Your own stack doesn't change – you go back to it by choosing My stack.

A shared playlist can't be rearranged, and tracks can't be removed from it. To change something in it, tap Copy to my stack (the two-sheets icon) – the tracks go to the end of your stack, where you can arrange them your way and share them as a new playlist.

Deleting

Choose the playlist in the Play: list and tap the bin in the header – after a confirmation the playlist disappears for everyone. Only its author, an administrator or a person with the Shop manager role (e.g. with the Manager profile) can delete it. Playlists of a deleted staff account disappear with it.

The list refreshes when you come back to the app and when you open the Play: list, so a playlist shared a moment ago on another device appears without reloading the page.

The ☰ button in the top right corner shows who is signed in and has the language switch and Log out. Changing the language in the radio doesn't interrupt the music.

License

The radio requires an active license or a trial. After the license expires, the radio is paused. See License.
